This resin is responsible for treating hard water by removing calcium and magnesium ions, which cause scale formation and other problems associated with hard water. As water passes through the softener body, the hard ions are exchanged with sodium ions present on the resin, thus softening the water and preventing the buildup of scale deposits in pipes and household appliances.
